SEVEN SAINTS EARN ALL-CVAC HONORS; WARD NAMED CO-PLAYER OF THE YEAR

THOMASVILLE, N.C.—Seven Limestone College men’s lacrosse players earned All-Conference honors as goalkeeper Marty Ward was named Co-Player of the Year, as released by the Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference office on Tuesday. Limestone’s First Team All-Conference honorees include Ward, Allen Vaughn, Brock Spilker, Mike Piccin, and Matt Pinder. Justin Haworth and Spencer Wims were named Second Team All-CVAC.

Ward (Syracuse, N.Y.) has led Limestone to a 9-1 record this season. He posts a save percentage of .630 along with 133 saves. Ward earned CVAC Player of the Week honors twice this season and was an Inside Lacrosse Pre-Season All-American

Vaughn (Skaneatdes, N.Y.) has played in all 10 games at attack for the Saints. He is tied for first on the team with 44 points, 29 goals, and 15 assists. He had a season-high eight goals against Mars Hill and had a season-high five assists at Presbyterian. He earned CVAC Player of the Week honors earlier this season.

Spilker (Pasadena, Md.) ranks third on Limestone’s team with 18 points from 11 goals and seven assists after seeing action in all 10 games. Spilker had a season-high five goals against Queens.

Haworth (Deer Park, N.Y.) tied for 1st on the squad with 29 goals, 15 assists, and 44 points despite missing games due to an injury earlier this season. He scored a season-high seven goals at Wheeling Jesuit and dished out a season-high seven assists at Mars Hill. Haworth also has 21 ground balls for the season.

Piccin (Agawam, Mass.), Pinder (Centreville, Md.), and Wims (Waltham, Mass.) helped anchor Limestone's defense that has only allowed 80 goals in 10 games with a goals against average of 8.89. Piccin has scooped up 20 ground balls this season, and picked up seven versus St. Andrews.

Pinder has scooped up 20 ground balls in his 10 appearances this spring. He’s also helped out on offense with goals against Presbyterian, Adelphi, and Belmont Abbey. Pinder was a CVAC Player of the Week honoree this season and an Inside Lacrosse Pre-season All-American.

Wims has played in every match during his freshman campaign and picked up 13 ground balls. He also scored a goal in Limestone’s win against conference-rival Belmont Abbey.

The All-Conference teams were determined by a vote from each head coach of the participating institutions. Nominations were collected and then voted upon by ballot and tallied to determine All-CVAC First Team, All-CVAC Second Team, All-CVAC Honorable Mention Team, Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year, and Coach of the Year award winners. Awards will be presented at the CVAC Conference Tournament Championships hosted by St. Andrews Presbyterian College in Laurinburg, NC at this weekend’s conference championship.
