LIMESTONE’S BULTER TAKES INDIVIDUAL TITLE AT ST. ANDREWS INVITATIONAL; SAINTS FINISH SECOND

WAGRAM, N.C.—Limestone College men’s golfer Paul Butler (Gaffney, S.C.) fired a three-under par score of 69 in the final round of the St. Andrews Fall Invitational to win the tournament’s individual title with a total score of 136 (67-69). The Saints team posted a final score of 591 (292-299) to place second in the nine-team field. The tournament was held at the par-72, 6,573-yard Deercroft Golf Club.

Mount Olive won the team competition with a final score of 583, Barton College’s A team was second after scoring 592, Lander came in fourth with 597, and tournament-host St. Andrews rounded out the top five with a score of 598. Newberry was sixth with 606, Barton’s B squad was two strokes behind in seventh, Queens shot 630 for eighth, and North Carolina Wesleyan didn’t compete the final round after a player was disqualified and one withdrew.

Butler’s final score of 139 was two strokes ahead of second-place finisher Kyle Post of Barton who shot 141 (71-70). Butler was the only golfer of the 44 competitors to score in the 60s in both rounds. The other Saints’ had strong showings, too. Chris Taylor (Houston, Texas) was 18th with a two-round score of 151 (75-76), Wally Brennan (Brewster, Mass.) was 21st (76-76-152), Bryson Jones (Graniteville, S.C.) finished 26th (74-82-156), and Tyler Smith (Spartanburg, S.C.) was 37th (84-78-162).
