LIMESTONE IN 2ND AFTER FIRST ROUND OF ST. ANDREWS INVITATIONAL; BUTLER HOLDS INDIVIDUAL LEAD |
WAGRAM, N.C.—The Limestone College men’s golf team is in second place after the first round of the St. Andrews Fall Invitational as the squad fired 292 on Monday. Paul Butler (Gaffney, S.C.) holds the individual lead after carding a five-under-par score of 67. Three other Saints are in the top 20 of the 43-golfer field. The tournament is being played at the par-72, 6,573-yard Deercroft Golf Club. Mount Olive leads the nine-team field with 289, while the Saints are only three strokes behind. Barton College’s A and B teams hold the third and fourth slots with scores of 296 and 299, respectively. Tournament-host St. Andrews sits in fifth place with 300, Lander is close behind with 302, Newberry is seventh with 310, Queens is eight with 814, and North Carolina Wesleyan is ninth with 346. Butler fired a 67 to gain the lead after day one. Mount Olive’s Mick Moberg had the second lowest score of the day with 69 to end the round in second place. Limestone’s Bryson Jones (Graniteville, S.C.) is in 14th after scoring 74, Chris Taylor (Houston, Texas) is 16th with 75, Wally Brennan (Brewster, Mass.) is 20th with 76, and Tyler Smith (Spartanburg, S.C.) is 37th with 84.
