LIMESTONE WINS AGAINST NORTH GREENVILLE IN SCOTT’S COACHING DEBUT |
TIGERVILLE, S.C.— The Limestone College men’s basketball team opened its season with a 94-73 win against North Greenville on Thursday night at Hayes Gymnasium. Limestone (1-0 overall) was paced by Marques Williams (Rochester, N.Y.), who recorded 33 points in tonight’s effort. Tonight’s victory also marks the first collegiate win for first-year head coach Brandon Scott. Williams nailed 9 of his 15 3-point attempts (60%) to lead Limestone in scoring. Andre Coleman (Clermont, Fla.) had 25 points and Kenny White (Columbia, S.C.) had 16. White led the Saints with five boards, and John Prioleau (Charleston, S.C.) had five assists. Austin Randel had a team-high 25 points for the Crusaders, as Nathan Wilson scored 17. Adam Griggs had a game-high 10 rebounds and Jordan Hammond recorded a game-high 9 assists. North Greenville (0-1) held the lead for the first half, gaining as much as a 10 point advantage (26-16) with 10:58 left in the period. Limestone fought back as a layup by Williams tied the score 44-44 heading into halftime. The Crusaders had a brief 46-44 lead in the starting minutes of the second half after a field goal by Adam Griggs. Williams responded with a 3-pointer for Limestone, but North Greenville came back with a jumper by Austin Randel to make the score 48-47. That would be the Crusaders’ last lead of the game as Limestone went on a 15-point run with 3-pointers by Creal, Williams, and Coleman. The Saints would maintain their double-digit lead for the rest of the contest as they outscored NGU 50-29 in the last half. North Greenville had 42 rebounds to Limestone’s 30, but the Crusaders had 25 turnovers resulting in 24 points in the Saints. NGU only had 9 points from 13 Limestone turnovers. The Saints had a 12-7 advantage on second chance points. Limestone was 43.4% from the field (33-76) and 60% from the free-throw line (6-10). North Greenville shots 56.4% (27-48) and was 57.1% in free-throws (12-21). Limestone begins Conference Carolinas play on Tuesday, November 20 at 7:30 p.m. in Charlotte, N.C. against Queens University. |
