LIMESTONE MEN’S GOLF TIED FOR 7TH AT NCAA ATLANTIC REGIONAL

POOLER, Ga.— The Limestone College men’s golf team battled brisk winds to end the first round of the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional tied for seventh place in the eight-team field on Monday at the Savannah Quarters Country Club. Wind gusts reached to the high 30s as Limestone shot 343.

Belmont Abbey has a 16 stroke lead (314) over Barton and Anderson who both fired 330 to tie for second. Fayetteville State and Coker are tied for fourth with 334, while Pfeiffer holds the sixth slot with 338. Mount Olive is tied with Limestone for seventh after scoring 343.

Paul Butler (Gaffney, S.C.) leads the Saints after firing 83 in the first round to tie for 16th. Bryson Jones (Graniteville, S.C.) is tied for 23rd (85), while Chris Taylor (Houston, Texas)  is tied for 28th (86). Chris Etheredge (West Columbia, S.C.) and Wally Brennan (Brewster, Mass.) are tied for 36 after scoring 89 in the first round.

The Savannah Quarters Country Club is also playing host to the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional on May 7-9.In all, only 20 of the 90 players in the field for the regional broke 80, battling heavy winds on the par 72, 7,066-yard Greg Norman designed Savannah Quarters championship course. Play continues on Tuesday with a single round beginning with tee times at 8:00 a.m. The regional concludes on Wednesday, with the champions from the Southeast and the Atlantic region advancing to the 2007 NCAA DII Men's Golf Championships in Allendale, Mich., on May 22-25 - as well as the next three lowest schools, regardless of region.
