LIMESTONE RALLY FALLS SHORT AS SAINTS ELIMINATED FROM CVAC TOURNEY |
WILSON, N.C.—The Limestone College baseball team’s rally fell just short as Anderson edged the Saints 5-4 to eliminate them from the Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference tournament. Limestone falls to 20-31 with the loss as Anderson improves to 26-30-1.
The Trojans scored once in the first, but Limestone tied the game in the second as right fielder Paul Irby’s (Edgemoor, S.C.) single scored third baseman Taylor Cook (Houston, Texas). Anderson scored two runs in the fourth and seventh to take the 5-1 lead.
The Saints fought back in the final two innings as centerfielder Zach Watkins (Albany, Ga.) batted in second baseman Daniel Lydon (White Plains, Md.). Limestone scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth as Cook singled to score pinch hitter Justin Moore (Mt. Holly, N.C.) and pinch runner Kyle Brewer (Gruetin-Laager, Tenn.)
Cory Welch picked up the win for Anderson as Tyler Anderson (Kershaw, S.C.) was tagged with the loss after pitching the first 6 1/3 inning. Brian Baugher (Frederick, Md.) finished out the game for the Saints.
Limestone will finish out the season with a game against Wingate University on Tuesday, April 24 at 7 p.m. in Wingate, N.C.
