LIMESTONE TAKES ON ERSKINE ON SENIOR DAY

 

Today was Senior Day for the Saints as the team recognized their seniors for their hard work and dedication to the Limestone baseball program. These 11 individuals have helped Limestone to over 40 wins the last two seasons, and played a major role in getting the team to the championship game of the 2006 CVAC conference tournament. Eight of these athletes were members of the 2005 team that won Limestone’s first regular season conference championship.

Tyler Anderson
Tyler Anderson joined the Saints as a freshman in 2004. He has pitched in 60 games during his career and struck out 93 batters. Tyler is tied for fourth in the Limestone single season records with 25 appearances during the 2005 season, and is tied for first with a perfect winning percentage, also achieved during the 2005 season with his 4-0 record. This year, he leads the Saints pitching staff with 62.2 innings pitched and 9 starts. He has recorded wins against Ohio Valley, Lenoir-Rhyne, Coker College and Erskine while holding his opponents to a .251 batting average. Tyler, originally from Summerville, S.C., is the son of Chris Anderson and Leslie Hinson. He is a physical education major.

Joey Asis
Left fielder Joey Asis, a native of Gastonia, N.C., began his college career at Surry Community College before transferring to Limestone in 2006. In his 2 seasons at Surry, he had final batting average of .390 with 58 runs and 38 RBIs while earning First Team-All District and First Team All-Region Honors. He was named All-Conference last season and started in all 52 games for the Saints. In 2006 Joey had a batting average of .330 and led the team with nine stolen bases. He has started in 38 games this season. During his two years at Limestone, he has scored 77 runs, 19 doubles, 12 homeruns, 47 RBIs, and posts a batting average of .315. His parents are Jimmy and Robin Hensley. Joey will graduate with a degree in physical education.

Taylor Cook
Third baseman Taylor Cook joined the Saints as a freshman in 2004. The Austin, Texas-native has played in 126 games during his college career, scoring 82 runs and hitting 17 doubles. His 209 at-bats last season ranks him fifth in the Limestone single season record books. He also led the team with 71 hits in 2006. This season, Taylor posts a career-high .375 batting average while playing in 31 games. He is a business marketing major at the College. His parents are Tim and Carol Cook.

 

Matt Craig
Matt Craig returned to finish out his college career this year after missing last season while he served his tour of duty in Iraq with the U.S. Army Reserves. Craig was an All-Conference honoree during the 2005 season as he hit .364 in his 53 appearances while scoring 35 runs and knocking in 35 RBIs. This season, Matt has a .371 batting average and leads the team with an on-base percentage of .488. He had appeared in 103 games during his career at Limestone and has 56 career RBIs, 21 career doubles, and 28 stolen bases. Matt, who is originally from Lincolnton, N.C., is a computer science major. His parents are Larry and Vicki Craig.

James Edwards
James Edwards has appeared in over 70 games during his time at Limestone. An outfielder from Gaffney, James began his career with a home run in his first career at-bat versus Bluefield State in 2005. He had a career-high 16 stolen bases during the 2005 season. James carried a 4.0 GPA last year as a junior. The son of John and Rachael Edwards, he will graduate from Limestone with a degree in computer science.

 

Matt Frazier
Matt Frazier has spent two seasons with the Limestone Saints varsity team. This season, Matt helped the Saints to important CVAC wins against Belmont Abbey and Pfeiffer University. He has 15 collegiate appearances. Matt is originally from Piedmont, S.C. and is a physical education major at the College and has been named to the Presidents List and the CVAC’s All-Academic teams.  His parents are Larry and Karen Frazier.

 

Paul Irby
Right fielder Paul Irby has been a member of the Saints since 2005 and has played in over 100 games during his career. During his time at Limestone, he’s recorded 116 hits, 42 RBIs, 23 doubles and 21 stolen bases. So far this season, Paul has a .313 batting average, 15 RBIs, 3 home runs, 9 stolen bases and has scored 23 runs. Originally from Edgemoor, S.C., he is the son of Paul and Sherri Irby. Paul is a sports management major.

 

Daniel Lydon
Second baseman Daniel Lydon joined the Saints in 2006 after playing at Chowan University as a freshman and sophomore and earned First Team USA South Conference and National Christian College Athletic Association First Team All-American honors. Daniel leads Limestone with 13 doubles this season and has a .306 batting average, 4 homeruns, and 31 RBIs. He has recorded 165 hits, 33 doubles, and 95 RBIs since his freshman season. Daniel is a sports management major from White Plains, Md., and has been named to the CVAC All-Academic team. His parents are Mike and Karen Lydon.

Tyler Midgett
Saints team captain Tyler Midgett has seen playing time as a third baseman, catcher, and designated hitter in his four seasons with the Saints. He currently has a career-best batting average of .356 to go along with 27 RBIs, 20 runs scored, 8 doubles, and 7 home runs. He’s played in over 150 career games and has recorded 86 RBIs, 24 doubles, and 11 homeruns. Tyler, a native of Summerville, S.C., will graduate from Limestone will a degree in physical education and has been named to the CVAC All-Academic team. His parents are Ronnie and Bonnie Midgett.

Daniel Phillips
Pitcher Daniel Phillips has been a pitcher for the Saints since he was a freshman. This Gaffney native also saw playing time at third base in 2004 as he posted .300 average with 5 RBIs in 2004. As a pitcher, Daniel has 45 career appearances. He has recorded 29 strikeouts in his 47.4 innings played. So far this year, he has played in 12 games and picked up the save in Limestone’s victory over Belmont Abbey. He also got the win against CVAC-foe Pfeiffer.  His parents are Dennis and Debbie Phillips. Daniel is a business management major.

Shane Suter
Originally from Woodbury, Pa., Shane Suter joined the Saints in 2006 after a two-year career at Allegheny Community College, where he helped his team to a runner-up finish in the Region and earned regional All-Tournament team honors. This season he’s seen action in 10 games and struck out 10 batters. He picked up the win against USC-Upstate and was credited with the save in Limestone’s victories against Augusta State and Ohio Valley. Shane’s parents are Brian and Bridget Suter. He is a criminal justice major.
