LIMESTONE BASEBALL SUFFERS CLOSE LOSS TO COKER |
HARTSVILLE, S.C.— The Limestone College baseball team suffered a close 4-2 loss to CVAC-rival Coker College on Sunday afternoon at Tom J. New Field. Limestone’s conference record stands at 5-9 (18-21 overall) as Coker posts a 6-9 CVAC record (12-24 overall). Limestone’s Ryan Maxa (Sarasota, Fla.) took the loss after pitching the first 4 1/3 innings. Reliever Brian Baugher (Frederick, Md.) finished the game for Limestone and recorded four strikeouts. Jayson Clarke picked up the win for Coker as Kyle Strickland got the save. Coker took the 2-0 lead in the fourth as Brian Nally tripled to right field and Julio Gomez hit a sacrifice fly to score the base runner. Seth Weinberg hit a triple to right centerfield to score Ben Davidson from second base. The Saints cut the Cobras lead to one in the sixth. Shortstop Dylan Anthony (Lincolnton, N.C.), bunted to get on base. He advanced to second on a bunt by centerfielder Zach Watkins (Albany, Ga.) Anthony scored after second baseman Daniel Lydon (White Plains, Md.) hit a double. Coker added to its lead in the seventh, as the team scored two runs. Limestone tried to rally in the ninth inning, as designated hitter Adam McSwain (Fallston, N.C.) singled and got to second base by an error by the Cobra shortstop. Justin Moore (Mt. Holly, N.C.) came in to run for McSwain and scored on an error by the second baseman. However, Limestone couldn’t come up with three more runs for the win. Limestone has the week off until Friday, when the Saints host Erskine College for a three-game conference series. Friday’s game will start at 3 p.m., and Saturday’s doubleheader is slated for 12 p.m. at Bob Prevatte Field in Gaffney.
