LIMESTONE GOES 1-1 AGAINST COKER |
HARTSVILLE, S.C.—The Limestone College baseball team picked up a 7-4 win in game 1 of its doubleheader against conference-rival Coker, but the Cobras turned things around for a 7-4 victory in game 2. The Saints stand at 18-20 overall (5-9 CVAC) after today’s results as Coker improves to 11-24 (5-8 CVAC). Tyler Anderson (Summerville, S.C.) pitched a complete game in Limestone’s 7-4 win over the Cobras. Brad Boob took the loss for Coker after pitching the first 7 1/3 innings. Limestone took the 3-0 lead in the third, but Coker tied the contest in the fourth. Limestone scored a run in each the fifth, sixth, eighth, and ninth innings, while the hosts could only come up with one more run in the sixth. Shortstop Dylan Anthony (Inman, S.C.), right fielder Paul Irby (Edgemoor, S.C.), third baseman Taylor Cook (Houston, Texas), and second baseman Daniel Lydon (White Plains, Md.) each had two hits for the Saints. Designated hitter Adam McSwain (Fallston, N.C.), Irby, and catcher Kyle Brewer (Gruetin-Laager, Tenn.) recorded doubles, and right fielder Joey Asis (Gastonia, N.C.) had a home run. Coker’s Matt Conyers earned the win in the day’s second contest, as Shane Suter (Woodbury, Pa.) got tagged with the loss. Chris Zimmerman (Navarre, Fla.), Jeremy Riggs (Suffolk, Va.), and Daniel Phillips (Gaffney, S.C.) also pitched. The Cobras scored a run in the first and another in the second for a 2-0 advantage, but Limestone rallied to tie the game in the third. Centerfielder Zach Watkins (Albany, Ga.) doubled as Anthony scored. In the next at-bat, second baseman Matt Craig (Lincolnton, N.C.) singled to score Watkins. Coker had a pair of runs in the fourth and fifth. Limestone’s catcher Tyler Midgett (Summerville, S.C.) came up with another run in the bottom of the fifth as he started the inning with a homerun. The Cobras put another point on the board in the sixth for the 7-4 win. Watkins was 3-for-4 in game 2, while Midgett, Craig, and Soden each had two hits. Limestone completes its three-game series against Coker tomorrow at 1 p.m. Tom J. New Field in Hartsville.
