CATAWBA DOWNS LIMESTONE IN BASEBALL ACTION |
SALISBURY, N.C.—The Limestone College baseball team took an early 3-0 lead but couldn’t hang on to it as Catawba College scored nine runs for the 9-3 win at Newman Park on Wednesday. Limestone falls to 17-18 overall as the Indians improve to 20-12. In the first inning, Saint left fielder Joey Asis (Gastonia, N.C.) singled to score centerfielder Zach Watkins (Albany, Ga.) from third base. Limestone’s two other runs came as shortstop Dylan Anthony (Lincolnton, N.C.) homered in the second, which also scored third baseman Taylor Cook (Houston, Texas). Catawba rallied for two runs in each the third, fifth, and sixth innings. The Indians also had three runs in the seventh. Jeremy Riggs (Suffolk, Va.) took the loss for Limestone. Kyle Elliott (Shelby, N.C.), Brian Baugher (Frederick, Md.), Chris Zimmerman (Navarre, Fla.), and Tyler Anderson (Summerville, S.C.) also saw playing time for the Saints. Paul Link got the win for the Indians. Catawba was 20-for-39 at the plate while the Saints only connected on 9-of-35 at bats. The Indians’ designated hitter Brian Sommer was 4-for-5, while three more players had three hits. Watkins, Asis, and second baseman Daniel Lydon (White Plains, Md.) each had two hits for Limestone. Limestone continues its road trip in Anderson, S.C., tomorrow at 6 p.m. when the Saints play Anderson University in a non-conference contest.
