BRYANT DEFEATS LIMESTONE 8-5 IN BASEBALL ACTION |
GAFFNEY, S.C.—Bryant University defeated the Limestone baseball team 8-5 on Sunday afternoon at Bob Prevatte Field. The Bulldogs improve to 6-7 overall as Limestone stands at 14-12. Kevin Cobb got the win as Adam Vuolo got the save. Clayton Knight (Moncks Corner, S.C.) was tagged with the loss, as Shane Suter (Woodbury, Pa.), Kyle Matheney (Spindale, N.C.), and Alex Dergins (Morganton, N.C.) also pitched. The Saints took an early 2-0 lead in the first, as left fielder Paul Irby (Edgemoore, S.C.) scored on a first baseman Adam McSwain’s (Fallston, N.C.) single. Designated hitter Tyler Midgett (Summerville, S.C.) singled to score outfielder Joey Asis (Gastonia, N.C.) Bryant scored in the third to cut Limestone’s lead to 2-1, but right fielder Phillip Soden (Inman, S.C.) hit a homerun to give the Saints a 3-1 advantage. The Bulldogs took the lead in the fourth as the team scored three runs. Irby tied the game in the fifth with a homerun. However, Bryant had two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh to take the 8-4 lead. The Saints scored their last run of the game in the eighth as Soden hit his second home run of the day. Bryant’s Jeff Vigurs was 2-for-4 with a homerun, while Nick Campbell had a double and three RBIs. Dave Muscatello was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Soden finished the day going 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Midgett was 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Irby was 2-for-5 with a double and a homerun. Limestone hosts King College on Monday at 2:30 p.m. at Bob Prevatte Field.
