LIMESTONE BEATS OHIO VALLEY 9-6; LOMBARDO GETS 400TH CAREER WIN |
GAFFNEY, S.C.— Limestone Head Coach Chico Lombardo got his 400th career win as the Saints defeated Ohio Valley 9-6 on Tuesday at Bob Prevatte Field. Limestone evens its record to 10-10 with the victory as the Fighting Scots fall to 2-7. Freshman pitcher Clayton Knight (Moncks Corner, S.C.) got the win as Alex Dergins (Morganton, N.C.) picked up the save. Kyle Matheney (Spindale, N.C.) and Kyle Elliott (Shelby, N.C.) also pitched. Brad Linch was tagged with the loss after pitching the first 5 1/3 inning. Darin Sampson pitched the remainder of the game for Ohio Valley. The Saints scored four runs in the second, and Ohio Valley answered with two runs in the top of the third. Limestone catcher Tyler Midgett (Summerville, S.C.) singled to score first baseman Phillip Soden (Inman, S.C.) in the bottom of the inning. While the Fighting Scots scored a run in the fourth and sixth, and added two runs in the eighth, Limestone scored four in the bottom of the sixth for the win. Limestone centerfielder Zach Watkins (Albany, Ga.) was 2-for-4 with a double, three RBIs, and a stolen base. Second baseman Daniel Lydon (White Plains, Md.) had three RBIs for the day. Ohio Valley’s Brad McConnachie was 2-for-5 with an RBI, while Jesse Young was also 2-for-5 with two RBIs. Limestone hosts Ohio Valley on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday at Bob Prevatte Field. All of the Saints’ games against the Fighting Scots will begin at 2:30 p.m. each day.
