BELMONT, N.C.—Belmont Abbey scored five homeruns and was 18-for-41 at bat to get a 16-6 conference win over Limestone College on Sunday. The Crusaders climb to 6-3 in Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference play with the victory (12-8 overall), as the Saints fall to 2-6 in the CVAC (8-10 overall). Tyler Anderson (Kershaw, S.C.) took the loss as he pitched 5 2/3 innings. Evan Denton (Dallas, N.C.) finished out the final 2 1/3 inning for Limestone. Belmont Abbey’s Rue got the win as he pitched the first 7 1/3 innings. The Crusaders scored the first three runs of the game in the third, and added two more in the fourth for the 5-0 lead. Limestone had a run in the fifth and two in the sixth to cut the score to 5-3, but Belmont Abbey responded with four runs in the bottom of the sixth and five in the seventh. The Saints had three runs in the eighth, but another two runs by BAC in the bottom of the inning gave the Crusaders the 16-6 win. Limestone struggled at bat, going 7-for-30. Saints outfielder Paul Irby (Edgemoor, S.C.) was 3-for-5 at bat with a double. First baseman Phillip Soden (Inman, S.C.) had a home run and three RBIs for Limestone, while second baseman Daniel Lydon (White Plains, Md.) had a double and two RBIs. Five of BAC’s players hit homeruns and four hit doubles. Breslin had four RBIs for the Crusaders. Limestone hosts Anderson tomorrow at 3 p.m. in a non-conference game at Bob Prevatte Field in Gaffney, S.C.
