ERSKINE SLIPS BY LIMESTONE IN BASEBALL ACTION |
DUE WEST, S.C.—The Erskine College Flying Fleet scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth to defeat the Limestone Saints 5-4 in a non-conference contest on Tuesday. Limestone falls to 7-8 overall as the Flying Fleet improve to 12-5 for the season. Erskine had a 1-0 lead entering the fifth inning, but a homerun by Saints third baseman Justin Moore (Mount Holly, N.C.) tied the score. The Fleet evened the score in the bottom of the fifth. In the seventh inning, outfielder Zach Watkins (Albany, Ga.) hit a sacrifice fly to score Moore. Designated hitter Adam McSwain (Fallston, N.C.) hit his sixth homerun of the season in the sixth to give Limestone the 2-1 lead in the . Catcher Tyler Midgett (Summerville, S.C.) doubled to score first baseman Phillip Soden (Inman, S.C.) in the eighth for the 4-2 lead. However, Erskine rallied for three runs in the final inning for the win. Tyler Anderson (Kershaw, S.C.) pitched the first 7 2/3 innings as he struck out five batters. Evan Denton (Dallas, N.C.) pitched 1/3 of inning before Chris Zimmerman (Navarre, Fla.) finished out the game. Zimmerman took the loss while Erskine reliever Russell Reid pitched the final 2 2/3 innings for the win. Limestone hosts Anderson in a non-CVAC contest on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at Saints Field in Gaffney, S.C.
