LIMESTONE BASEBALL SPLITS CVAC CONTESTS WITH BARTON |
GAFFNEY, S.C.-- The Limestone baseball team split its doubleheader with CVAC-rival Barton on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs edged the Saints 2-1 in the first game, but Limestone got into the swing of things to shutout Barton 8-0 in the second contest. Limestone stands at 1-3 in CVAC play (7-7 overall) as the Bulldogs fall to 2-3 in the CVAC (7-11 overall). In the first game, Brian Baugher (Frederick, Md.) pitched the first 6 2/3 innings for Limestone and was tagged with the loss, while the Bulldogs’ Kelly Stracke got the win. Chris Zimmerman (Navarre, Fla.) finished out the game for the Saints. Limestone gave up two runs in the sixth and tried to rally in the bottom of the eighth, but couldn’t come up with the runs to win the game. Taylor Cook (Houston, Texas) scored Limestone’s only run of the game as he was batted in by Dylan Anthony (Lincolnton, N.C.) The Saints got off to a strong start in the day’s second game as the team scored four runs in the first. Limestone scored three more runs in the fifth and added one more in the sixth for the 8-0 win. Justin Bye took the loss for Barton, while Ryan Maxa (Sarasota, Fla.) pitched the complete game to get the win. Maxa had four strikeouts during the contest. Limestone catcher Tyler Midgett (Summerville, S.C.) was 2-for-3 at bat with a home run, a double, and two RBIs. Justin Moore (Mt. Holly, N.C.), third baseman Taylor Cook (Houston, Texas), and outfielders Joey Asis (Gastonia, S.C.), Josh Izokovic (Shelby, N.C.), and Zach Watkins (Albany, Ga.) also hit doubles. Cook and Izokovic each had two RBIs, as Watkins and Asis also batted in runs. Limestone is scheduled to host Barton tomorrow at 1 p.m. in the final game of the series.
