SAINTS WIN SLUGFEST |
GAFFNEY, S.C.-- In a game that saw 42 runs scored, Limestone College defeated Lander University, 25-17. Limestone improves to 5-3 for the season while the Bearcats drop to 2-4. Alex Dergins (Morganton, N.C.) got the win for the Saints while Justin Altman took the loss for Lander. Limestone scored six runs in the bottom of the first. Lander answered with a run in the second, but the Saints built their lead to 11-1 at the bottom of the inning. Lander scored three more runs in the third while Limestone had one. The Bearcats had a terrific rally in the fifth as the team scored 12 times. Limestone managed to add six runs to their total in the same inning, and went on to score four runs in the sixth and three in the eighth. Lander had a run in the top of the ninth in the team's 25-17 loss. Designated hitter Adam McSwain (Fallston, N.C.) was 4-for-5 for the Saints with a double, a homerun, and eight RBIs. First baseman Phillip Soden (Inman, S.C.) was 5-for-6 at bat with three doubles and four RBIs. Catcher Kyle Brewer (Greutin-Laager, Tenn.) and second baseman Daniel Lydon (White Plains, Md.) also hit homeruns for the Saints. Lydon had seven RBIs for the day while Soden and third baseman Taylor Cook (Houston, Texas) each had four. Lander's designated hitter, Chris Munn, was 2-for-3, as he hit two homeruns and batted in two runs. Second baseman Jonathan Myers and first baseman Jesse Barbaro also hit homers. Barbaro led his team with three RBIs. Saint freshman Clayton Knight (Moncks Corner, S.C.) had three strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings in his debut for the Saints, while Shane Suter (Woodbury, Pa.) and Jeremy Riggs (Suffolk, Va.) also pitched. Limestone starts CVAC play this weekend when it hosts Anderson University. The Saints will play a doubleheader against the Trojans on Saturday at 12 p.m., and will play a single game on Sunday at 2 p.m.
