LIMESTONE BASEBALL SPLITS WITH AUGUSTA STATE |
AUGUSTA, Ga.- The Limestone College baseball team split with Augusta State on Saturday afternoon at Jaguar Field. Both teams’ records stand at 4-2 for the season. The Saints won the first game, 4-2, and lost the second game, 4-3. Paul Irby (Edgemoor, S.C.) and Adam McSwain (Fallston, N.C.) each went 2-for-4 at bat in the day’s first contest. Taylor Cook (Houston, Texas) and Daniel Lydon (White Plains, Md.) each had an RBI. Zack Watkins (Albany, Ga.) scored two runs, while Joey Asis (Gastonia, N.C.) and Dylan Anthony (Lincolnton, N.C.) each scored once. Limestone scored runs in the first, sixth, seventh, and ninth innings, while Augusta State had a run in each the second and fourth inning. Evan Denton (Dallas, N.C.) pitched the first 5 1/3 innings, but Jeremy Riggs (Suffolk, Va.) got the win after coming in for 2/3 of an inning. Shane Suter (Woodberry, Pa.) got the save as he saw action in two full innings. Daniel Phillips (Gaffney, S.C.) finished out the games for the Saints. Denton and Suter each had two strikeouts, while Riggs and Phillips didn’t give up any hits. Jon Hansen got the loss for Augusta State. Phillip Soden (Inman, S.C.) had a team-high nine putouts, while Anthony had two stolen bases. In the second game of the day, Augusta State scored the game’s first run in the bottom of the third. Limestone answered with three runs in fourth. However, the Saints did not score again as the Jaguars had two runs in the seventh to tie the game. Neither team scored in the eighth or ninth, sending the game into extra innings. Augusta State got the win as Robbie Fite scored on a balk. Josh Izokovic (Shelby, N.C.) and Soden each had a homerun, and Izokovic also doubled and had an RBI. Soden recorded two RBIs during the contest. Soden again led the team with seven putouts and Cook had three assists. Brian Baugher (Frederick, Md.) pitched the first 5 2/3 innings, with Chris Zimmerman (Navarre, Fla.), Kyle Elliott (Shelby, N.C.), Jeremy Riggs (Suffolk, Va.), Alex Dergins (Morganton, N.C.), and Ryan Maxa (Sarasota, Fla.) finishing out the contest. Dergins was credited with the loss. Ryan Emmett got the win for Augusta State, pitching in the last five innings as he recorded three strikeouts. Dustin Taylor pitched the first six innings and had seven strikeouts. Limestone plays Augusta State tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Jaguar Field.
