SAINTS BASEBALL BEATS LENOIR-RHYNE 5-3 |
GAFFNEY, S.C.— The Limestone College baseball team improved to 2-1 for the season with a 5-3 victory over Lenoir-Rhyne College on Tuesday afternoon at Bob Prevatte Field. The Bears fall to 2-2 with the loss. Tyler Anderson (Kershaw, S.C.) got the win for the Saints while Adam Hart got the loss. Limestone put the first run on the board in the bottom of the second inning. Phillip Soden (Inman, S.C.) hit a triple. Taylor Cook (Houston, Texas) followed up with a single to score Soden. Lenoir-Rhyne took the lead in the fourth inning as Jordan Ackley singled with the bases loaded to score two RBIs, giving the Bears the 2-1 lead. The Saints scored three runs in the fifth inning. Paul Irby (Edgemoor, S.C.) hit a double, putting Cook on third base. Kyle Brewer (Gruetin-Laager, Tenn.) singled as Cook scored the tying run. Dylan Anthony (Lincolnton, N.C.) hit a sacrifice bunt to move runners to second and third base. Zach Watkins (Albany, Ga.) doubled and recorded two RBI to give his team the 4-2 lead. Anthony got another RBI in the seventh inning as Irby scored the Saints’ final run of the game. Lenoir-Rhyne tried to rally in the ninth inning, as Evan Taylor hit a homerun. Pitcher Chris Zimmerman (Navarre, Fla.) came in to finish the game for the Saints. Limestone’s defense held the visitors to three runs for the 5-2 win. Soden recorded 13 putouts for the Saints playing at first base. Lydon had five assists while Anthony had four. The Bears’ Daniel Smith led his team 13 putouts, while Taylor MacCurdy and Rob Mullin had six and five assists, respectively. Limestone travels to Clinton, S.C., to play Presbyterian on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
