LIMESTONE’S ASIS AND MIDGETT NAMED CVAC PLAYERS TO WATCH |
THOMASVILLE, N.C.— Limestone College’s Joey Asis and Tyler Midgett were named to the Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference Players to Watch list. The Saints baseball team was selected fourth in the pre-season coaches poll released by the league office on Friday. Asis was a Second-Team All-CVAC honoree last season as he played in all 52 games for Limestone, posting a .330 batting average. Midgett, Limestone’s team captain for the upcoming season, saw action in 37 games last year as he scored 14 runs and hit seven doubles. After advancing to the championship game of the CVAC tournament last season, the Saints are eager to make another run at a postseason title in 2007. Limestone returns a talented group of players from its 2006 lineup and has added several talented recruits. The Saints will face a challenging schedule as they take on Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference teams and several tough opponents from the South Atlantic and Peach Belt Conferences. Limestone will face nationally-ranked Francis Marion, Catawba and USC-Aiken. Other solid opponents on Limestone’s schedule include USC-Upstate, Mount Olive, Barton, Erskine, and Lander. The Saint open the season on Thursday, February 1 when they host Presbyterian at 2 p.m. at Bob Prevatte Field in Gaffney, S.C.
